Lawson Family Shih-tzu Why AKC ?
One might wonder why they should choose a AKC registered puppy over a puppy that is not a registered puppy.
There are several reasons;
1. The AKC, American Kennel
Club, is the oldest national recognized national dog register in the
United Sates, It was started in 1884.
2. The impact that the AKC has on breeders is that they help them maintain their quality in a number of ways;
The foremost is that they do come and inspect breeders on a regular basises,
Among the things that they are looking for are how well kept are the
dogs, cleanliness, care, etc, and if the breeders are keeping their
records up to date. If there is a ongoing and/or serious problem or
violation of their standards they will suspend a breeders AKC
privileges,
They require that all the dogs be identifiable in some manor, be it tags on collars , micro chipping or tattooing.
By watching over breeders and insuring that they are taking care of
their dogs,and keeping proper records they help make sure the puppy you
buy is a happy healthy addition to your family.
That's not to say that there are not plenty of responsible breeders out
there who take very good care of their dogs and the puppies and for one
reason or another don't have their dogs registered. The question you
have to ask yourself and them, is why isn't the parents, and thus the
puppies registration with the AKC?
Limited Registration
If you are buying a AKC registered puppy , you should be aware that there is something called a "Limited Registration".
What is Limited Registration ? Simply put, it a way for a breeder to control his linage and the breding and the future breeding of that puppy. If
they sell you a puppy with limited registration, it means that the
puppy that you are getting is registered, However, any puppy's that
that dog may have later in life cannot be registered. essentially
cutting off the line of dogs, at least as far as the AKC is concerned. Thats
not to say you couldn't breed the dog, if you breed it to another full
breed dog the puppies would be full blood, but you couldn't register
the litter with the AKC, because the line had been cut off, when the
parent was registered as a limited registration.
It is
unfortunate that some breeders choose to sell their puppies with
limited registration, unless the buyer chooses to pay a greatly
inflated price to get a fully registered puppy. We do notcharge extra for a fully registered puppy.
We do not Believe in this. We only sell our puppies with full registration!!!
